Veteran Spotlight: Marcus Sanabria, Universal Banker, Metuchen Branch

Veteran Spotlight: Marcus Sanabria, Universal Banker, Metuchen Branch

From his years of service in the military to his current role as a Universal Banker at Manasquan Bank—Marcus Sanabria is a veteran success story. Many of the skills he developed while serving in the U.S. Marine Corps have contributed to his development today at the bank.

While serving overseas in Japan, Marcus discovered his enjoyment for finance and accounting by working as a Pay Clerk for the U.S. Marine Corp. At that time, Marcus was responsible for auditing pay stubs, correcting errors that were processed and reimbursements. Along the way, he was presented with an opportunity to lead a small group of Marines within the Pay Section, ensuring the team completed tasks in accordance with their standard pay policies.

Upon his arrival to the U.S. from Japan, Marcus went to serve on the Marine Recruiting Depot Parris Island in South Carolina. In that position, he assumed the positions of Travel Clerk and Customer Service Clerk, processing reimbursements for Marines who have traveled to their installation while under orders. During that time, Marcus designed and developed new procedures to automate the travel expenses procedure, resulting in higher efficiency rates for the department. Prior to leaving, he briefly served as a Fiscal Clerk and routinely handled checks and small cash amounts.

Marcus’s military training and experience proved crucial in every aspect of his departure from the U.S. Marine Corp, where he served briefly as a Correctional Officer. A very demanding and intense workplace environment, Marcus ultimately left to pursue a security officer role within an elementary school before relocating to New Jersey.

When Marcus moved to New Jersey, he was uncertain how he would successfully transition from military service into the banking industry, but he eventually found his new team at Manasquan Bank. As a prior student at the University of Maryland, he transferred to Embry Riddle Aeronautical University where he is nearly done with a B.S in Aeronautics. After his graduation, he plans to transfer to Rutgers University to further study Accounting.
