Don’t Be Fooled by “Vishing” Scams
How Fraudsters Use Caller ID Spoofing to Gain Your Trust
At Manasquan Bank, safeguarding your financial information is one of our highest priorities. Unfortunately, as technology evolves, so do the tactics scammers use to target consumers. One growing form of fraud is known as vishing — short for voice phishing.
What Is Vishing?
Vishing occurs when scammers call pretending to represent a trusted organization, such as your bank, a government agency, or a familiar company. Their goal is to convince you to share sensitive personal or financial information, including:
- Online banking credentials
- Debit card information
- One-time verification codes
- PINs or passwords
These calls are designed to create urgency and appear legitimate.
How Caller ID Spoofing Works
One reason these scams can be so convincing is because fraudsters use caller ID spoofing technology. This allows them to manipulate the phone number displayed on your screen so it appears the call is coming from a trusted source — even Manasquan Bank.
In some cases, your caller ID may even display our official phone number. While the call may look legitimate, the person on the other end is not affiliated with the bank.
Warning Signs to Watch For
Be cautious if a caller:
- Requests one-time passcodes, passwords, or PINs
- Pressures you to act immediately because of “fraud” or “account issues”
- Asks you to move money to another account for “protection”
- Instructs you to download software or click unfamiliar links
Manasquan Bank will never contact you to ask for your online banking credentials, verification codes, debit card number, or other sensitive personal information.
How to Protect Yourself
If something feels suspicious:
- Hang up immediately.
- Do not rely on caller ID alone — phone numbers can be spoofed.
- Contact Manasquan Bank directly using the number on the back of your debit card or listed on our website.
- Report suspicious calls to our Client Care Center at (844) 626-2265 or [email protected].
- Visit our Security Center / Fraud Prevention page for additional resources and tips.
When in Doubt, Verify
Scammers rely on fear, urgency, and trust to catch people off guard. Taking a moment to pause and verify can make all the difference.
If a call doesn’t feel right, trust your instincts — and contact us directly. We’re always here to help protect what matters most.
