Manasquan Savings Bank’s Richard J. Lanza, Jr. Selected as One of New Jersey’s New Leaders in Banking for 2014

November 18, 2014

(November 18, 2014) – Manasquan Savings Bank’s Richard J. Lanza, Jr., Vice President of Information Technology, Network Management, and Communications, has been honored as one of New Jersey’s New Leaders in Banking for 2014. Sponsored by the New Jersey Bankers Association and New Jersey Banker magazine, the award, selected by an independent committee, recognizes 13 up-and-coming stars of the state’s banking industry annually. Among the selection criteria are the capacity to make a meaningful impact at the bank and community level.

“In an age where data security and online service remain top of mind, Mr. Lanza is defining the vision for Manasquan Savings Bank in the digital age,” Manasquan Savings Bank President and CEO James S. Vaccaro. “His recognition as an emerging leader in banking is well-deserved, and our entire organization wishes to recognize his accomplishments and celebrate this milestone in his career.”

Mr. Lanza joined Manasquan Savings Bank in April of 2013, at which time he initiated numerous IT upgrades that have rapidly upgraded the bank’s efficiency, service, and digital security. In addition to spearheading enhancements to the organization’s mobile banking platform, which recently launched mobile check deposit functionality, Mr. Lanza played a central role in conceptualizing a new, more robust business online banking platform.

Alongside his technology work for the bank, Mr. Lanza is a dedicated civic leader with a deep focus on community. In the wake of Superstorm Sandy, Mr. Lanza was closely involved in Coastal Habitat for Humanity rebuilding efforts. He also raised more than $5,000 for Restore the Shore in one week during a kick-a-thon, which leveraged his 29 years of martial arts training. As an anti-bullying advocate, he regularly hosts self-defense events for local Boy and Girl Scout troops, which teach conflict awareness and avoidance techniques. Other charitable involvement includes a 9-11 kick-a-thon, which raised more than $10,000 for victims’ families, and annual food drives in support of the FoodBank of Monmouth and Ocean Counties.

A recent graduate of the ABA Stonier Graduate School of Banking, Mr. Lanza also holds a Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania Leadership Certificate.

An award reception for the 2014 New Leaders in Banking will take place during the BankHorizons banking conference, which will be held at the Atlantic City Tropicana Casino Resort in December. Mr. Lanza will also be profiled along with the other winners in the next issue of New Jersey Banker.
